The Museum of Music invites visitors to explore collections of traditional and folk instruments from around the world. Through oboes, flutes, stringed instruments, and percussion instruments, the museum showcases the people who play and make them.
Located in the heart of a cross-border, Mediterranean region where the oboe tradition remains deeply rooted, the Music Museum offers visitors the chance to discover instruments and objects from Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the Americas, illustrating their musical richness and diversity.
The Museum, managed by the CIMP (Centre Internacional de Música Popular), established in 1987, holds the second largest collection of musical instruments in France. This collection is estimated at over 3,000 musical instruments and contextual objects, 15,000 scores, photographs from collections, and a library. This collection was primarily compiled from the original CIMP collection and the Herzka Nil collection.
